At least 50 individuals have been arrested in connection with the execution of directives linked to a recently viral audio clip allegedly featuring Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Public Relations and Media Branch, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrests on Sunday evening.

According to Rahman, the arrests were made based on intelligence reports during drives conducted in multiple areas of the capital on Saturday night.

The clip, which has stirred widespread controversy, has sparked a wave of investigations, with authorities acting swiftly to detain those involved.

During the drives, a large amount of provocative posters, placards with pictures and cash were seized from their possession.

“Recently, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, in an audio clip that went viral on various social media platforms, including facebook, directed the leaders and activists of her party to use placards with pictures of the newly elected president of the United States and the flag of the United States in processions and rallies,” Talebur said.

“They were directed to use those placards as shields when needed and collect footage of vandalism of those placards in an effort
to destabilise the country.

They have planned this mischief as part of an attempt to destroy the good relations of the US with Bangladesh,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police have set up checkposts at several key points in Dhaka and conducting searches on Dhaka-bound transports.

The law enforcers started searches last night (November 9) at Dhaka-Aricha highway’s Amin Bazar and Bipaile of Nabinagar-Chandra highway.

Police said that they are working to ensure the security of people. To avoid any untoward incidents, such drive is being conducted.

Tension mounted after the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement announced a rally to counter programmes announced by Awami League marking the Shaheed Noor Hossain Day at Zero Point at Gulistan in the capital.
