Chittagong, UNB : At least 50 people in Anwara upazila fell sick inhaling toxic gas emitted from Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited due to leakages in a pipe carrying Diammonium phosphate. Quoting officials of the factory, Assistant Commissioner of the Chittagong Port Zone of Police Jahidul Islam said the incident took place when the pipe got leaked around 11pm. As a result, he said, toxic gas came out from the factory and spread in the open air, leaving people adjacent to the factory area sick. On information, firefighters appeared at the scene and took 30 of the sick people to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), while the rest to local clinics. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Mesbahuddin visited the CHMC after the incident.
