Five people have been sentenced to death over a decade-old murder of an autorickshaw driver in Sylhet.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Shayla Sharmin delivered the verdict on Thursday, state counsel Abdus Sattar confirmed the news and said,The convicts are Shahidul Islam, 21, Sumon Ahmad, 19, Shipu Mia, 19, Zakaria Munna, 20, and Md Ruhul Amin, 20. All of them are natives of Sunamganj.
The accused were absent during the announcement of the verdict. Zayeda Begum, the plaintiff’s lawyer, told the media that they are currently on the run.
