At least five persons, including three students, were killed and several others injured in separate road crashes across the country on Tuesday.
In Bogura, three people including two brothers, were killed in separate two road accidents in two upazilas of Bogura on Tuesday.
At Bogura sadar, two sixth-graders died on the spot when a truck hit their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway around 10 am.
The deceased were identified as cousins — Mahanur Islam, 13, and Sifat Islam, 15,
At Sonatala, a 12-grader died after a sand-laden truck hit her brother’s motorcycle around 10:00am near Panchkuri Bridge.
The deceased was identified as Sahana Aktar 17.
According to locals, Sahana and his brother were going to Sahana’s college in the Sukhanpukur area when the accident happened. Her brother was injured and sent to hospital, said Imran Hossain, sub-inspector of Sonatala Police Station.
After the incident, locals seized the truck. However, the driver and his assistant managed to flee, the police official added.
In another incident, two fish traders were killed and five others injured when a pickup truck carrying fishes overturned on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar.
The incident took place at around 1pm when the vehicle lost control opposite the Hashara highway outpost on the Dhaka-bound lane, collided with the road divider, and overturned, according to the locals and police at the scene.
One of the deceased was identified as Bahadur Bepari, 45, and the other could not be identified immediately.
“Seven people were brought in critical condition, out of which two succumbed to their injuries,” said Dr Aklima Roushan, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Sreenagar Health Complex.
Preparations are underway to take the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment, she added.
Kanchan Kumar Singh, in charge of the Hashara Highway Police, confirmed the incident and said, “Two have died, and five have been injured in the accident. They were fish traders heading to Dhaka from Mawa.”
