5 killed in road crashes nationwide

At least five people were killed in separate accidents across the country in a single day, highlighting a surge in violence and raising concerns over public safety.
On Sunday, two people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Lalpur Upazila of Natore district.

In another incident, a madrasa teacher was killed in Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari district, while a youth killed after getting stuck in a rope tied horizontally on the road for cutting trees at Nesarabad Upazila of Pirojpur district. A bus helper was killed and nine others were injured when a speeding bus hit into the back of a covered van parked in Mirsarai Upazila of Chattogram district.

Meanwhile, the deceased were identified as van driver Ershad Ali, 45, and pedestrian Bablu, 60, hailed from Maheshpur and Mohorkoya villages respectively in the upazila of Natore district.
The deceased madrassa teacher Md. Rafiqul Islam, 55, was a resident of Burir Hat village in Khalishachapani union of the Dimpla upazila.

The youth was identified as Md. Tanim, 23, son of Md. Jahangir Hossain of Panaullahpur village of the Nesarabad upazila. The accident took place on the Swarupkathi-Pirojpur road in Sehangal area of the upazila yesterday morning when Tanim was going to the district town on a motorcycle with his friend.

The bus helper was identified as Mohammad Murad, 25, son of Jamal Hossain of Harbang Muslimpara under Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.

In Natore, Officer-in-Charge of Lalpur Police Station Rafiqul Islam said a Rajshahi-bound microbus from Ishwardi hit a rickshaw-van at Chinir Bottola area, leaving Ershad dead on the spot as he fell under the vehicle’s wheels around 12:30am.
