5 killed in Raipura clashes of two rival groups

At least five men were shot dead and 35 injured in a clash between two rival groups in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Thursday over land business and supremacy.
The deceased were identified as Amir Hossain (65), Badal Mia (45), Junayed (16), Firoza Begum (35), and Anis Mia (30).
The injured persons were admitted to local hospital, Narsingdi, Bhairab government and private clinics.
Locals saids that, the clash took place at Saidabad village in Srinagar union of Raipura upazila.
The riva groups, known as “Alir Bari” and “Baluchar Bari”, are led by Abdul Halim Master and Saheb Ali respectively.
The two groups clashed on Wednesday noon and again Thursday morning.
According to local sources, tensions between the groups have been simmering for the past six months over establishing dominance in the area, with frequent attacks and counterattacks.
The Officer -in Charge (OC)of Raupura,
Safayet Hossain Palash said that, “We are waiting for the army. We will only move to the spot with their support due to the security risks.”
There had at loggerheads between these groups over dominance long time, OC added.
Dr.Nuruddin Jahangir, RMO in Raipura Upazila Government Hospital said that, the victims were brought to the hospital at 10:30 am, and they were declared dead upon arrival.
RMO also said, several injured patients were referred to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for further treatment.
The army including police were patrolling the area and brought the situation under control.
