At least five people including a mother and her daughter were killed as a hill collapsed on their houses in the district in the early hours of Monday. The incident happened around 2.00am in Radar area of Kabaristan Para of the district town. The deceased were identified as Junu Begum (28), wife of Kairul Amin, her daughter Niha Moni (7), Shah Alam (40), his wife Rokea Akhter (33) and Rina Akhter (17). According to sources, the hill collapsed on four houses due to continuous rainfall over the last several days. On information, Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), fire service and police rushed to the spot and conducted rescue operation with the help of locals. Cox’s Bazar’s acting Deputy Commissioner Anupam Saha, additional police Superintendent Tofayel Ahmed and Civil Surgeon Kamal Uddin also rushed to the spot. They recovered the five bodies from the spot.
