5 killed as truck rams into a car in Habiganj

In a tragic incident on Thursday morning, at least five people, including a woman, lost their lives in a collision between a private car and a truck in the Haritala area along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, under Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj district.

The deceased have been identified as Jamal Mia, aged 40, son of Moz Ali, hailing from Boalia village in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali district; his wife Kamrun Nahar, aged 35; their son Md Anant, aged 11; Jamal Mia’s younger brother Enamul, aged 35; and the private car driver Harun Bepari, son of Yunus Bepari, from
Barpasha village under Bakerganj upazila of Barishal district.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shaistaganj Highway Police, Badrul Karim, confirmed the incident to the media.

Badrul Karim said, “Jamal Mia’s family had rented a private car from Savar Hemayetpur in Dhaka on Wednesday morning to visit Sylhet Hazrat (RA) Shahjalal’s shrine. Tragically, while returning to Savar from Sylhet, the collision occurred with a Sylhet-bound truck around 1:30 am, resulting in the deaths of all five occupants of the car.”

“Upon receiving the information, police and fire service personnel promptly arrived at the scene. They recovered the bodies and transported them to the morgue at Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Additionally, the police seized both vehicles involved in the collision, added the OC.

OC Badrul Karim also stated that necessary legal proceedings were underway in connection with the incident.
