5 killed, 200 injured in Rangpur clash

The anti-discrimination student movement turned into a battleground of the non-cooperation movement in the divisional city of Rangpur.
On Sunday (August 4) around noon, 5 people including Ward Councilor No. 4 were killed in the clashes. 200 people including journalists were injured in the clash between the agitating students and the leaders and activists of Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Sechchwashebok League and affiliated organizations. The agitating students set fire to the district and metropolitan offices of Awami League in Rangpur metropolis, party offices of Awami League in Badarganj, Mithapukur, Pirgagya upazilas.
Rangpur City Corporation Panel Mayor Mahmub Rahman Manju confirmed the death of the councillor. Rangpur City Corporation Ward No. 4 Councilor Haradhan Hara and his associate Shyamal (40) were hacked to death. Councilor Haradhan Roy Hara is the president of Metropolitan Parashuram Thana Committee of Rangpur Mahanagar Awami League.
The dead bodies of Jubo League leader Khairuzzaman Khasru and Masum are lying in Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue. Sardar Abdul Jalil and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, who are in charge of the mortuary of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, confirmed the death.
