DB Police on Thursday rescued Kazi Raisul Islam alias Selim (45), Chairman of Moukaran Union Parishad of Patuakhali district, who was abducted from Ikuria of South Keraniganj area in Dhaka district.
Police also arrested five members of the kidnapping gang in this connection.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Farhad (34), Toufiq Rahat (20), Ripon Mahmud Nayan (27), Md. Amir Hossain (65) and Mohammad Didar (25).
The Organized Crime, Car Theft Prevention and Rescue Team of DB-Mirpur Division rescued the victim from a room on the 2nd floor of the Dolenar Building located on the south side of Doleswar Government Primary School under South Keraniganj Police Station at 2 pm and arrested five members of the kidnapping gang by conducting raids in various areas of South Keraniganj.
During the initial interrogation, the arrested Farhad said that on December 31, 2024, at 01:30 am, Pannu, a member of the kidnapping gang, called him and asked him to come to Ikuria. After receiving Pannu’s call, Farhad, Tawfiq Rahat and Ripon Mahmud Nayan came to Ikuria. When they arrived, they saw a man being dragged from the Green Line bus by 15/20 people including Pannu.
As per Pannu’s direction, 15/20 people including Farhad put the victim Kazi Raisul in a private car.
While going to Hasnabad by private car, they dropped Farhad off on the way. The arrested Amir Hossain said that as per Pannu Sheikh’s words, the victim was kept in a room on the 2nd floor of his building. The accused said that the victim demanded a ransom of one crore taka from the family of Kazi Raisul Islam alias Selim.
Later, they collected the ransom of one lakh taka through various bKash numbers.
According to DB-Mirpur Division sources, after the kidnapping, the kidnappers kept the victim, Kazi Raisul Islam Selim, captive for two nights and subjected him to inhuman physical torture.
Further legal action against the arrested is under process.
