5 go missing as trawler sinks in Buriganga

At least five people, including three of a family, went missing as a trawler capsized in the Buriganga river being hit by a launch in Alirtek area in Sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The victims were identified as Selim Khan, his son Emon khan, a class IX student and daughter Mousumi, a class VI student, Selim and Abdul Quader, 50, son of Abdul Hamid. The passengers of the trawler said the Narayanganj sadar-bound trawler from Fatullah, carrying 50-60 passengers, sank in the area around 7am after being hit by a Dhaka-bound launch. Ten or twelve passengers of the trawler managed to swim ashore while the others remained missing, they said. Assistant Sub-inspector of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station said five of the missing passengers have been identified. The divers are trying to trace the missing passengers, said the ASI. — Narayanganj, Dec 12 (UNB)
