5 candidates fined for violating poll codes

Five chairman and vice chairman candidates have been fined for violating the code of conduct in Shibalaya Upazila Parishad elections. Chairman candidate Rezaur Rahman Khan Janu (Pineapple symbol) was fined Tk 2,000 for hanging colorful banners, motorcycle symbol candidate Mobarak Hossain Khan Pannuwas fined Tk 3,000 as there were multiple election camps in one union. Vice Chairman candidate Ali Ahsan Mithu (Urojahaj) 1000 taka for distribution of tea and drinks in election camp, Rahul Amin Munshi (Mayik) 3000 taka for the same reason, female vice chairman candidate Maisha Hossain Tamanna (Kolosh) 1 for using multiple mayiks in one union.
Shibalaya Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Faiz said that fines were collected from the above candidates for violating the rules of election. He also said that vigilance is being maintained to strictly enforce the rules of electoral conduct.
No one will be exempted from breaking the rules.
It is known that in the 2nd phase of the upazila elections to be held on May 21, after the allotment of symbols on May 2, a week of two days of heavy rain, numerous posters, banners, festoons etc. hung on ropes were destroyed. Some candidates said that they have to spend more money to replace the posters, banners etc. that were damaged in the storm.
