49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed with due respect at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) on Wednesday (August 27). In the morning, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, on behalf of the university family, paid tribute by placing floral wreaths at the poet’s sculpture. A minute of silence was also observed for the eternal peace of the poet’s soul.
In a brief speech, the Vice-Chancellor said, “We must take lessons from the poet’s works and reflect them in our lives. Unfortunately, enough research on Nazrul has not been done yet. Our Institute of Nazrul Studies and the Centre for Research and Extension should play a stronger role in this regard.”
The program was attended by Treasurer Prof. Dr. Zainul Abedin Siddiqui, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Md. Bakhtiar Uddin, Dean of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Sakhawat Hossain Sarkar, Dean of Law Muhammad Irfan Aziz, Dean of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Muhammad Emdadur Rashed, Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, Proctor Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the Rabindra-Nazrul Death Anniversary Celebration Committee and Head of the Department of Bangla Language and Literature Prof. Dr. Md. Habib-ul-Maola (Maola Prince), Transport Administrator Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shakil Hasmi, Provost of Bidrohi Hall Prof. Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, along with teachers, students, officials, and staff.
Earlier, Qur’an recitation, prayers, and a milad mahfil were held at the university central mosque, led by Imam Hafiz Mukti Md. Abdul Hakim. On Sunday (August 31), a discussion meeting and cultural program will also be arranged at the old administrative building’s conference room to mark the day.
