Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-14) arrested three individuals and recovered 49 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside cotton sacks from a mini truck in Elenga, under Kalihati upazila of Tangail.
The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around Tk 14.7 lakh. The arrests were made during a drive conducted late Monday night. The detainees have been identified as Aminul (35), the truck driver; Babu (36), his assistant; and Mojahid (25), reportedly a drug dealer.
RAB-14 CPC-3 Tangail Camp Commander Kawsar Bandhon disclosed the details at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
According to RAB, based on a tip-off, they learned that cannabis was being transported from Habiganj concealed under cotton sacks in a mini truck, en route to Jamuna Bridge via Gazipur. Acting on the information, RAB intercepted the vehicle around 3:30am at Elenga and recovered 49kg of cannabis from inside the cotton bales.
The arrested individuals were later handed over to Kalihati Police Station for legal action.
