The government has announced that the 227 candidates, who were temporarily deemed ineligible for recruitment in the 43rd BCS, can apply for reconsideration. Their cases will undergo review, and they might be included in the gazette if deemed fit.
“Reconsideration appeals will be accepted from any of the 227 candidates who were temporarily deemed ineligible for recruitment. The opportunity to apply for reconsideration is open to all,” reads a notice issued by the public administration ministry.
On January 25, 2024, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) recommended 2,163 candidates for temporary recruitment in various cadres through the 43rd BCS examination. In accordance with Rule-4 of the BCS Recruitment Rules, 1981, the pre-character verification of the candidates was conducted through the Bangladesh Police Special Branch and the respective District Commissioners.
Following the verification process, 40 candidates were excluded for failing the medical examination, and 59 others were disqualified based on agency reports. As a result, 99 candidates were temporarily disqualified, and a recruitment notification for 2,064 candidates was issued on October 15.
Since the issuance of the recruitment notification, questions have been raised about the acceptability of the appointment from various perspectives. To address these concerns and restore confidence and trust in the government recruitment process, a decision has been made to conduct further pre-character verification of the 2,163 recommended candidates from the 43rd BCS through the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) to ensure the selection of candidates with a clean image.
Reports from the NSI and DGFI regarding the suitability/ineligibility of the 2,163 candidates were received. According to the reports, 227 candidates received negative reports regarding their pre-character verification (objections/ not recommended).
Due to these adverse remarks, 227 candidates were temporarily deemed ineligible for recruitment, and a decision was made to conduct further verification and inquiry about them. Additionally, 40 candidates who were absent for the medical examination were also considered ineligible for recruitment.
In this situation, a final recommendation for recruitment was made for 1,896 candidates from the 2,163 initially recommended. The decision excluded 40 candidates who were absent for the medical examination and 227 candidates deemed temporarily ineligible based on intelligence agency reports, resulting in a total of 267 candidates being removed. On December 30, a recruitment notification for the remaining candidates was issued.
