As many as 40 eye patients underwent free surgery at the Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) in the capital on Thursday.

Of them, 27 were women and 13 others men.
Many individuals suffered from cataracts, while others experienced pterygium, a benign growth of the conjunctiva.

Under the supervision of BEHRI Director Prof Dr Saleh Ahmed, a group of ophthalmologists, including Dr Moutushi Islam, Dr Anthony Albert and Dr Tasruba Shahnaz, performed the surgery.
Recently, 423 eye patients were selected for surgery at a free medical camp organised by BEHRI, Vision Care Foundation, and ChikitsaSahayata Kendra Chapainawabganj.

Of them, 40 patients underwent surgery in the fourth batch.
BEHRI Manager Mohammad Ahsan Habib said Bashundhara Eye Hospital provides treatment to patients from all walks of life at affordable costs.

“So far, 3,108 patients have undergone free eye surgery at BEHRI,” he said.
Chapainawabganj CSK Secretary General Aminul Islam said the platform organises two eye camps every year to provide free eye treatments to underprivileged people.

“We have served more than 8,000 people since our partnership with BEHRI and Vision Care Foundation in 2019,” he said.
