Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in two separate drives arrested 16 people on charge of intrusion into Bangladesh and 24 more for attempt to enter India illegally at Amrakhali border point here on Monday night.
The arrestees include six women and four children.
Subedar Rafiqul Islam, commanding officer of BGB-26, said on secret information, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested 16 people, including two women and one child, while trying to intrude into the Bangladesh territory from India.Later, the same team arrested 24 people, including four women and three children, while they were going to India illegally through the same area at the same night.
All of them hail from different areas of Faridpur, Bagerhat, Pirojpur and Barisal districts.
Later, BGB troops handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection.
