At least Five gold shops and a house were robbed by some miscreants at night in Ashtomanisha Bazar of Bhangura Upazila of Pabna. The incident took place at around 2 am on Wednesday after midnight.
According to local sources, miscreants broke the lock of the gold shop of Ratan Karmakar, Tapan Karmakar, Uttam Karmakar, Yusuf Ali and Attab Ali in Ashtomanisha Bazar and looted about 30 bhoris of gold jewelry and 5 lakh taka.
Then they attacked Ratan Karmakar’s house, beat up his wife Jamuna Rani Karmakar and son Ranjan Karmakar and snatched about 10 bhoris of gold and 15 lakh taka in cash.
The victims claimed that the robbers looted a total of 40 bhori gold and 20 lakh taka in cash.
Ranjan Karmakar said that an armed gang of 8/9 people first broke the lock of the shop and looted the jewelry.
Later, they entered the house and took the gold and cash hostage at gunpoint.
When his mother took time to remove her jewelry, the robbers beat her up. When Ranjan tried to stop him, he was also beaten up and injured.
He also said that they had two firearms and sharp weapons in their hands.
Locals also said that the robbers came to Ashtomanisha Bazar in a speedboat and after the robbery, fled towards the below reaches of the Gumani River in the same boat.
Md. Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bhangura Police Station said that the police reached the spot as soon as they received the information. However, it is not yet known who was involved in the incident.
On Thursday afternoon, Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Crime and Ops Md. Rezinur Rahman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Chatmohar) Manjurul Alam, Pabna DB Police OC Md. Rashidul Islam and members of the CID Crime Scene Team visited the spot and collected necessary evidence.
