At least four school children were killed and one injured after being hit by a microbus on the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway at Kuthipara in Khoksha upazila of Kushtia on Sunday morning.
The tragic incident occurred as the children were returning home from a local maktab near their houses.
The victims were identified as Mim (12), daughter of Md Hanif; Tanzila (11), daughter of Palon Sheikh; Juthi (12), daughter of Helal Uddin; and Maria (11). All were residents of the Kuthipara area.
Abdul Kuddus, the local union parishad chairman, reported that
a Dhaka-bound, high-speed microbus hit the children while they were crossing the highway.
After the collision, the vehicle plunged into a roadside pond, killing one child on the spot and critically injuring three others.
The injured children were rushed to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
Kushtia Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akul Chandra Bishwash confirmed the incident.
