4 RMG workers killed in Shibalaya road mishap

Four people were killed and 20 injured in a head-on collision between a minibus carrying garment workers and a truck loaded with stones bound for Aricha on the east side of Bowali Bridge in ShibalayaUpazila.

Among the seriously injured, 8 have been sent to ManikganjSadar Hospital in critical condition.

Barangail Highway Police Station TI Mohammad Ibrahim said that the casualty occurred in a collision between a minibus (Dhaka-Metro-J 11-0242) and a stone-laden truck (Dhaka-Metro-T 20-7790) carrying workers of Tarasima Garments, 25 kilometers away, amid heavy rain.

As of writing this report, the deceased are: Bithi Akhtar (38), wife of Iqbal of Teota village, a garment worker, Koli Begum (32), wife of Baten of Jhikutia village, Sabina Akhtar (25), wife of Sabbir of Samajghar village and Raihan (59), a minibus driver of Arichar. The injured laborers from different villages of ShivaloyUpazila are: Parveen (25), Rehena (20), Sonali (25), Lipi (24), Sathi (21), Halima (22), Sumon (32) and Rupa (30).

Shibalaya Police Station OC ARM Al Mamun said that the collision occurred when the bus-truck lost control while crossing the Bowali Bridge. The right side of the bus was broken by the impact of the truck. The truck lost control and fell into a deep ditch on the north side of the road. Local people, fire service, police station and highway police reached the spot and carried out rescue operations.
