Four reform commissions submitted their reports to Chief Adviser Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday morning.
The heads of the commissions submitted these reports at the Chief Adviser’s office in Tejgaon. Advisers of the interim government were present.
The commissions that submitted their reports include the Election Reform Commission, the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, the Police Reform Commission, and the Commission for Constitutional Reform. Following the submission, discussions will take place regarding the reports.
A press conference is scheduled for 3pm, during which the government will provide detailed information to the media on this matter. The interim government had issued a notification establishing the commissions on October 3.
Following the mass uprising of students and citizens that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 of last year, an interim government took charge. The country has been plagued by irregularities and corruption under authoritarian misrule, affecting the legal, judicial, and administrative sectors, among others. To address these issues, the interim government established 11 reform commissions in two phases to propose necessary reforms.
The reports from these commissions are expected to include various recommendations regarding the electoral process, presidential elections, and legislative reforms. After engaging in dialogue with political parties, the government will take final steps on the proposed reforms. Additionally, other commissions are also expected to submit their reports in February.
