A rural community in Rajshahi’s Paba upazila was plunged into shock on Friday morning after four members of a family were discovered dead in their modest earthen home in Bamanshekhar village.
The deceased were identified as Minarul Islam, 30, his wife Sadhina Begum, 28, their teenage son Mahim, 13, and 18-month-old daughter Mithila Khatun. Mahim was a class VIII student at Kharkhari High School, police confirmed.
“Acting on a tip-off, we arrived at the scene around 9am and found the bodies inside the home,” said Sub-Inspector Kalam Parvez of Motihar Police Station.
According to police, Sadhina and her young daughter were found lifeless in a northern room of the house, while Minarul and his son Mahim were discovered hanging from a ceiling fan.
Investigators recovered a handwritten note, believed to be from Minarul, which pointed to financial hardship and debt as possible motives behind the tragedy. Neighbours told police that Minarul, an agriculture worker, had been struggling to support his family while carrying significant loans.
