At least four people, including a pickup van driver and his assistant, were killed as the van collided with a passenger bus of ‘Binimoy Paribahan’ in Tangail’s Madhupur municipality early Tuesday.
The accident took place in Malauri area on the Tangail-Mymensingh regional highway.
Emramul Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhupur Police Station, confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Rabiul Islam, 28, son of Atar Ali from village Mohammadpur of Islampur upazila under Jamalpur district, Baraillah, 42, son of Sadhu Mia of the same upazila, pick-up driver Sujan Mia, 35, and Amjad Hossen, 28, son of helper Kashem Ali.
Locals said two people died on the spot as the Jamalpur-bound pickup from Dhaka collided head-on with the passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
Two more severely injured were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The vehicle has been impounded and the bodies were sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy, the OC said.
