During the operation, authorities recovered significant evidence linked to the crime. Among the items seized were a silver-coloured private car believed to have been used in the commission of the robbery, along with Tk 4 lakh 49 thousand in cash.

Additionally, police recovered various incriminating items, including three black belts, an army uniform-coloured shoulder bag, a laser light, a black toy revolver, a pair of handcuffs, and two black head caps.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shamim Ahmed Sabuj (34), Iqbal Hossain alias Islam (45), Hafizur Rahman Sumon, and Abdur Rahman Mehdi (30).
In a press conference held at the District Superintendent of Police’s office, Additional Superintendent of Police Chailau Marma provided details of the successful operation.

He highlighted the cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the effective use of information technology, which led to the swift arrest of the suspects.

Further investigations revealed the extensive criminal records of the accused. Iqbal faces 8 cases, Mehdi has 4, Shamim has 4, and Hafiz has 5 cases against them in various police stations related to banditry and robbery under false identities.

The incident occurred on May 23, around 8 p.m., when a businessman named Abdul Baten was returning home with his daughter’s son-in-law, Rana Ahmed, in his private car.

They were carrying Tk 52 lakh in cash and several checks from different banks. The perpetrators, posing as RAB officials, intercepted their vehicle near the Palla cemetery area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, forcibly taking away the money, checks, and mobile phones after threatening and restraining the victims.

Abdul Baten promptly filed a case with the Araihajar police station, leading to the arrest of the four suspects. Legal proceedings have been initiated against them, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
