4 held for Tk 29 lakh heist at IFIC Bank in Bogura

In a significant breakthrough, police arrested four individuals accused of stealing Tk 29 lakh from the vault of an IFIC Bank sub-branch in Bogura. Following the arrests, law enforcement recovered approximately Tk 10 lakh in cash and a motorcycle purchased with the stolen money.

Bogura Superintendent of Police, Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, announced the arrests at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects have been identified as Zahidul Islam, 30, from Hukmapur village under Bogura Sadar upazila; Bimol Rajbhar, 30, from Singria village under Fulchhari police station in Gaibandha district; Biplob Sarker Mithun alias Mithu, 28, from Talshon village under Adamdighi police station; and Pavel from Dakkhin Atkaria village under Sonatala police station.

Superintendent Chakrabarty detailed the arrest operation and said, “The four were apprehended on Monday night after separate operations in Bogura and Dhaka over the past five days. Based on their confessions, we recovered Tk 10,85,940 in cash and a motorcycle from Zahidul’s residence.”

The theft occurred at the Matidhali sub-branch of IFIC Bank in Bogura city shortly after midnight on June 13. The criminals broke into the bank, forced open the vault, and escaped with Tk 29,40,618.

“A case was filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station on the night of June 13,” Chakrabarty stated. “Detectives and local police identified the suspects by examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area.”

The subsequent police operation to apprehend the criminals commenced on June 19, leading to the successful capture of the suspects and the partial recovery of the stolen funds.
