Four European nations—Italy, Germany, Greece, and Romania—members of the European Union (EU), have shown a keen interest in recruiting skilled manpower from Bangladesh across six diverse sectors.
Plans to finalize the recruitment roadmap for these countries are set for completion by June.
Bangladesh is poised to receive an initial financial boost of three million Euros aimed at creating a skilled workforce tailored to the specific needs outlined.
Foreign ministry officials have indicated that ongoing discussions with the EU regarding legal migration have been underway for the past two years. A significant meeting to further these discussions took place in Brussels on March 4-5.
In 2021, the EU launched the Talent Partnerships Scheme targeted at students, graduates, and skilled workers.
This initiative is designed to foster international mobility that benefits both the EU and partner countries through the alignment of labor market demands and skills.
Officials believe that initiating manpower recruitment under this program in the specified European countries will pave the way for increased job opportunities in other EU nations and beyond.
Italy, Germany, Greece, and Romania have all expressed their interest in sourcing manpower from Bangladesh for various sectors. However, initially, focus will be on exporting skilled labor in six key areas: shipbuilding, readymade garments, information and communication technology, construction, tourism, and agriculture. Discussions between Bangladesh and the EU are ongoing to finalize the details of this recruitment process.
An inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the foreign secretary was held to outline the roadmap for manpower export to these four EU countries.
Specific interests include Italy’s focus on the RMG and shipbuilding industries, Germany’s on tourism and ICT sectors, and Romania and Greece’s on skilled workers in the construction and agriculture sectors.
