Baishabi, a major social festival of the minority ethnic peoples living in Chattogram Hill Tracts, will begin from April 12.
Ahead of the festival, a joyous atmosphere is prevailing in the entire CHT region. Traditional sports and cultural performances are being held in various neighborhoods, reports BSS.
On the eve of Baishabi, a four-day festival has begun at Khagrachhari Minor Ethnic Group Cultural Institute.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Jiruna Tripura inaugurated the Baishabi fair by cutting the ribbon on Saturday afternoon.
On the first day of the festival, Marma water games (Jalkeli), Tripura Garya dance and various traditional performances of Chakmas were presented.
Besides, the fair premises became a hub for the traditional “Komar Tant” and various cultural performances of the hill people.
The discussion was chaired by the rector of the Cultural Institute of Minority Ethnic Groups Nyohla Mong and the chief guest was the District Council Chairman Jiruna Tripura.
Khagrachhari Minority Ethnic Group Institute Director Nyohla Mong said this fair is being organised to preserve the traditions of the minor ethnic groups of the hills.
