Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed will inaugurate the Rehab Fair. Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation and freedom fighter Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority M Zahirul Alam Dubash, President of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam will be present as special guests on the occasion. Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) Vice President and Chairman of Chattogram Regional Committee Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury gave this information at a press conference organised at REHAB Chattogram office on Wednesday.
In a written statement, he said, Bangladesh has already entered the middle income country with the visionary planning and strong leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the plan adopted by the Prime Minister, Bangladesh will become a developed and smart country in the near future, and the prerequisite for developing a developed and smart country is to ensure housing for all. But in this country of limited resources, it is not possible for the government alone to meet this demand. In this situation, private entrepreneurs have come forward with their own initiative to solve the housing problem of people.
More than 900 member developer organisations of REHAB are working tirelessly to solve the housing problem of the country by considering the needs of the growing population. The massive rehab program of the past few decades has created self-reliance in the minds of people, creating easy home ownership. Besides, the entire construction sector has been contributing to the national economic growth through the development of various linkage industries such as government revenue, employment, rods, cement, tiles, etc.
The contribution of the entire construction sector to the economic growth of the country is about 15 per cent. The housing industry in Bangladesh is not only providing housing, but also providing food to 2 crore people who depend on 4 million workers. The housing sector is creating new entrepreneurs, which in turn is playing a strong role in the development of the country.
Abdul Qayyum said that the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has prepared a preliminary draft of the proposal of the master plan for the development of Chattogram. “We welcome this initiative taken by CDA for the development of Chattogram. We also want to build Chattogram satellite town with solution to housing crisis in the Port City. In this case, we demand to formulate a master plan involving REHAB.”
He said that REHAB has successfully completed 14 fairs in Chattogram in the past. “We hope that we will be able to present a successful fair in continuation of the previous events. This fair will play an important role in building a bridge between our members and buyers.” He mentioned that REHAB Fair will help the buyers to find a flat or plot of their choice within the means and affordability. A total of 48 organisations including 2 organisations as gold sponsors, 17 organisations as co-sponsors, 6 banks and financial institutions, 5 building materials organisations will participate in the fair.
