Four people have been arrested in a joint force operation in connection with the firing incident in Ishwardi to establish dominance and seize land in Padma char. On Saturday (April 26), the Mukul group fired several rounds of blank fire in the char area to establish dominance, creating panic among the villagers, according to the police. Later, the joint force conducted a raid in the Char area until late at night. The officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station said on Sunday that four people were arrested in the joint force’s raid and the detainees have been sent to Pabna Jail.
Those arrested in the operation are: Al-Amin (28), son of the deceased Muktar Mandal of Bagh Gadipur village under Bheramara police station in Kushtia district; Tozammel Haque (35), son of Altab Hossain of Lakshipur village under Ibi police station in Kushtia; Sagar Hossain Malitha (19), son of Habibullah Malitha of Char Pratappur village under Pabna Sadar police station; and Nasim Islam (40), son of Shukur Malitha of the same village.
Earlier, on Friday (April 25), a shooting incident took place in Charkurulia village of Laxmikunda union of the upazila. Five people were injured in the incident. The injured are Md. Pillu (26), son of Akat Majhi of Charkurulia village of the upazila, Subail Islam (27), son of Habibul Islam of the same village, Asif (25), son of Atiyar Pramanik, Shafiqul (28), son of Razzak Fakir, and Makkel Mridha (48), son of the deceased Manik Mridha.
Locals said that another incident of firing took place in Charkurulia village of Lakshmikunda union of the upazila on Saturday (April 26) afternoon. After that, the police and joint forces conducted a raid from noon to night. During this, 4 people were arrested.
Ishwardi Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Kumar said that after receiving information about the shootings over the issue of dominance and land grabbing in the char, law enforcement agencies conducted a raid on the spot and brought the situation under control. Four people were arrested during the operation. Habibul Pramanik of Chargargari village has filed a case against 26 named and 10-15 unknown people in the incident of firing and bullet injuries. He said that the arrested people are the accused in the complaint.
