Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University administration have issued show-cause notices to 39 teachers, officers, and employees over allegations of widespread irregularities and corruption.
Of the accused, 19 are teachers from different departments, while the remaining 20 are officials and staff members.
On Tuesday (September 16), following reports submitted by syndicate-formed investigation committees. The accused have been asked to submit written explanations within 10 working days.
Among the teachers who received notices are Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Nusrat Sharmin Tania, and Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin of the Theatre and Performance Studies department; Dr. Md. Zahidul Kabir and Dr. Musharrat Shabnam of the Music department; Dr. Mohammad Mehedi Ullah of the Folklore department; Nagarbashi Barman and Masum Hawlader of Fine Arts; Philosophy department head Md. Tariful Islam and Md. Khairul Islam; Dr. Marzia Akhter, Dr. Md. Shahabuddin, and Dr. Md. Mahbub Hossain of the Bangla department; Dr. Masud Rana and Antra Mahbub of Human Resource and Management; Dr. Molla Aminul Islam of Accounting and Information Systems; Dr. Md. Selim Al Mamun of CSE; Farzana Khanom of English; and Dr. Md. Tuhinur Rahman of Film and Media Studies.
Officials and employees named in the notice include former registrar Dr. Humayun Kabir; additional director (accounts) Md. Nazrul Islam; deputy chief engineer Md. Mahbubul Islam; additional exam controller Md. Abdul Halim; additional director of planning Kazi Mahbub Ilahi; caretaker Md. Asaduzzaman; personal officers Rebeca Sultana (EEE) and Rojina Begum (English); hall superintendent Sohel Rana; deputy chief medical officer Dr. Momtaz Begum; store registrar Nazmul Huda; assistant engineer Jannatun Naeem; deputy director of physical education Md. Omar Faruk Sarkar; deputy exam controller Rebeca Sultana; assistant director (finance) S.M. Kawsar Ahmed; former exam controller Nirmal Chandra Saha; additional director Radheshyam; demonstrator in Music Md. Mashiur Rahman; senior plumber Md. Asabul Haque; and personal officer of the central library Khaleda Jesmin.
University sources said three separate probe bodies, administrative, academic, and campus-affairs were formed after the recent mass uprising.
The committees, led by syndicate members Mahbubur Rahman, Zakir Hossain Khan, and Prof. Akhtar Hossain Majumder, investigated allegations of irregularities and corruption. Their findings prompted the university administration to take the latest action.
