The administration has taken extensive measures to ensure the safety and security of devotees and to maintain law and order during the upcoming Durga Puja festival.
All preparations have been completed to celebrate Durga Puja, the largest festival of the Hindu community in Kishoreganj, which is scheduled to begin on October 28. At least 388 Puja mandaps have been set up across 8 municipalities and 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj. Artisans, locally known as pauls, are working around the clock to give the final touches to the idols of Goddess Durga.
Police have intensified online monitoring of the Durga Puja celebrations to ensure foolproof security, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Hasan Chowdhury, BPM.
The SP of Kishoreganj also stated that the police are working to ensure the overall success of Durga Puja, as the festival has now become a universal celebration that promotes harmony and friendship among people of all religions and castes.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Kishoreganj, Mizabe Rahmat, mentioned that the District Administration has taken special security measures ahead of the festival.
About 25 Executive Magistrates have been deployed across Kishoreganj for the Durga Puja celebrations. The administration has also distributed 500 kg of rice to each Puja Mandap.
Members of the Hindu community, along with people from all walks of life, were already seen gathering at temples and Puja mandaps to witness the final stages of the preparations.
In addition, law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures for the periods both before and after the festival.
SP Hasan Chowdhury BPM told The New Nation that law enforcement personnel remain on high alert to ensure safety at all Puja venues, and daily visits to each Puja Mandap have already commenced. He emphasized that the police have implemented a three-tier security system for the Puja observance and that officers must remain vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents.
“We are requesting each Puja Mandap managing committee to deploy volunteers and install CCTV at their respective locations,” he added.
