The country on Sunday registered 37 more deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
There are also 2,459 more patients detected in same period.
“With the new fatalities, the death toll now stands at 2,618 and the death rate at 1.28 percent,” Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in a press briefing in Dhaka.
She said, with the new cases, the total number of infections in the country is 204,525.
The DGHS official said that 10,625 samples were tested in 80 authorised laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours, while found that the current infection rate is 23.14 percent.
Besides, the total infection rate stands at 19.89 percent, she said.
Dr. Sultana said 1,546 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the same span and the total number of recoveries stands at 1,11,642 and the recovery rate is at 54.59 percent.
She said that 609 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours.
Dr. Sultana said that among the deceased, 29 were males. Of them, 15 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, seven from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two from Sylhet, and one each from Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.
Of them, one was 21-30 years old, one between 31-40, three between 41-50, six between 51-60, twenty between 61-70, four between 71-80, one 81-90 and another was around 91-100 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
The DGHS official said that total of 1,164 people aged above 60 have so far died from coronavirus infections, which is 44.46 percent of the total deaths.
Bangladesh on March 8 reported its first infections and on March 18 registered first deaths from the Covid-19.
