A case has been filed against 31 people, including leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League and Jubo League, in Sonagazi upazila of Feni for their involvement in anti-state activities through a WhatsApp group.
The case was filed at the Sonagazi Model Police Station on Monday by BNP activist Nurul Afsar from Sonapur village under the Anti-Terrorism Act, reports UNB.
Azizur Rahman Taslim, Main Uddin, Saddam, Ayub Nabi Farhad, Sayed Anwar, Rifat Hossain, Rakib Hossain, Nazim Uddin, Zahir Uddin, Hridoy, and Omar Faruk and 20 unnamed people were accused.
According to the case statement, members of the banned Chhatra League gathered at Sonapur High School ground in Amirabad Union around 10:30pm on Sunday to hold a secret meeting.
Upon receiving information, Sonagazi Model Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Kazi Hasan Uddin and his team rushed to the scene but the suspects managed to flee.
However, with the help of locals, police managed to detain Azizur Rahman and Main Uddin and seized several mobile phones.
Authorities claim that an examination of the seized mobile phones revealed evidence of anti-national discussions in a WhatsApp group named “Bangla 24 Trinamul.”
Sonagazi Model Police Station OC Bayezid Akhand was in Noakhali for training, so his statement could not be known.
Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain said that he recorded the complainant’s complaint as an FIR.
