As soon as he heard the news of someone’s death, Manu Miah would run far and wide on horseback with a spade and a spade in his hand. But suddenly one day, miscreants killed his horse by stabbing it with a spear. This left 70-years old gravedigger completely mentally broken. Manu Miah died at his home in Joysiddi village of Kishoreganj ‘s Itna haor on Saturday morning. He left behind his wife, relatives, well-wishers to mourn his death. He has no children. His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the haor areas.

For almost 52 years of his life, he dug death people’s graves for free Manu Miah has been digging graves for more than 3,000 people for almost 52 years without any pay. He used to rush to the houses of the deceased on horseback, for this purpose he once sold his shop and bought his beloved horse. Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Rokon Reza, a lawyer from Dhaka and a native of the area, told the media that Manu Miah was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to illness. At that time, miscreants killed his beloved horse, which had been his companion for many years. This caused him to break down mentally. Acting UP chairman Bahauddin Thakur said, “Manu Miah became physically weaker after the horse’s death. Even after returning home after treatment, he was never the same. With his death, we lost a kind, selfless person. The lack of such a person can never be filled.” Manu Mia’s last wish was to go on Hajj. Even though he had been digging graves for a long time, he never took any money or tips from anyone.
Even after killing the horse, many people offered to buy it for him, but he refused. However, his last wish was to go on Hajj with his own money. That wish was not fulfilled by Manu Miah.
Towards the end of his life, Manu Miah had told the media about his interest in going on Hajj with his own money. At that time, he said, “I will get well very soon. Please pray for me. I don’t want any money, I just want prayers. My only wish is to get well and go on Hajj, but I will go on my own money.”
Incidentally, on May 16, this horse was found dead in Hasimpur village of Mithamoin Upazila’s Kathkhal Union. At that time, Manu Mia was undergoing treatment in the hospital. After that, the family hid the news of the beloved horse’s death from Manu Miah. When the matter became known, there was a storm of condemnation on social media, and Manu Miah came into the discussion.
