A drive was conducted in the Feni River bordering Feni district for illegal sand extraction, rendering 30 machines used for sand extraction useless and destroying 2,000 feet of plastic pipes.
OnFriday, Chhagalnaiya Upazila Executive Officer Subal Chakma conducted a drive on charges of illegal sand extraction in the Feni River, causing environmental damage, destroying cropland, destroying human settlements and destroying roads.
A huge amount of illegally extracted sand was seized during the drive. UNO Subal Chakma said that a mobile court drive was conducted against illegal sand extraction from the Feni River in Sonapur area of Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni.
He said that illegal sand extraction without following the rules of sand extraction is causing serious damage to the natural environment. The ecological system of the land is being destroyed.
Various establishments including homes, agricultural lands are being submerged in the river.
