Bagerhat Correspondent :

Forest guards from the Chandpai Forest Range under the Eastern Division of the Sundarbans recovered 30 kgs of venison and the head of a spotted deer, which were abandoned by poachers in Mongla Upazila, Bagerhat district, on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at Bauddhmary Bazar, following a tip-off that poachers had hunted a deer from the deep forest of Sundarbans at Joymonirgol.
Acting swiftly on secret information, a team of forest guards lay in ambush near Bauddhmary Bazar. Upon noticing the guards’ presence, the poachers abandoned the venison and deer head, fleeing the scene on a motorbike. The guards quickly recovered the items from the location.
Dinesh Chandra Das, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) and Range Officer of Chandpai Forest Range, confirmed the recovery and stated that a case had been filed at the local Mongla Police Station under the Forest Act. The recovered venison was subsequently buried in the Chandpai Forest Range Office premises on Monday afternoon, after being mixed with kerosene oil, following approval from higher authorities.
This recovery marks another victory in the ongoing efforts to combat poaching in the Sundarbans, a critical habitat for various endangered species, including the spotted deer.
