At least 30 people were injured in a clash between two factions BNP leaders and activists in Kishoreganj ‘s Nikli Haor on Tuesday over the influence of sand extraction from the Ghorautra River.
The injured persons receiving treatment at Nikli Upazila Health Centre and Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital (JSMCH) in Bajitpur.
Assistant Commissioner(AC), land, also Executive Magistrate of Nikli, Pratik Dutta said, ‘Based on the complaint of Nikli Upazila Jubo Dal Senior Joint Convener Azharul Islam Sohel, a drive was launched against illegal sand miners in the Ghorautra River on sunday night. At that time, a person named Md. Ripon Mia was arrested along with a dredger while sand mining and fined one lakh taka.’
Nikli, AC land further said, “Locals reported that people of ward BNP president Gias Uddin, who were on behalf of the complainant and the accused, got into a clash today over the incident.”
