Customs Intelligence officials recovered 30 gold bars and 98 grams gold ornaments weighing 3480 grams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday evening.
The special drive was conducted by the leadership of Abu Hanif Md Abdul Ahad, Assistant Director of the Customs Intelligence and Information Division of Dhaka. Â
Nazrul Islam, a passenger of the flight QR638, had carried the bars and landed at the airport around 5:10pm on the day from Qatar, officials of Customs Intelligence said..
They said that they conducted the drive on the basis of prior information and took position at different points in the airport. The gold is valued around Tk 2.32 core, he said.
The passenger was arrested as the gold bars were abandoned and legal action is under process, they added.
