The verdict was delivered on Sunday by Jayanti Rani Das, Judge of the Jashore Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2. The court handed down the capital punishment in the presence of one of the convicts, said Additional Public Prosecutor SM Abdur Razzak.
The three sentenced to death are Jewel Khan, son of Jahangir Khan of Rampur village under Shalikha upazila in Magura; Harun-or-Rashid, son of Selim Hossain of the same upazila; and Alamin, son of Hazrat Ali of Uttar Lalitadah village in Jashore Sadar. Additionally, Russell Mollah, son of Sultan Mallik of Shabuj Nagar village in Pirojpur Sadar, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000. In default of payment, he will serve an additional three months in jail.
According to the case details, the victim, Al Amin, a three-wheeler driver from Harishpur village in Magura’s Shalikha upazila, went missing after leaving home for work on December 9, 2021. His vehicle was recovered the next day by police in Chasda, Jashore, while his body was found dumped along a road in Budhopur village under Bagherpara.
Following the discovery, Al Amin’s father, Mostafizur Rahman, filed a case on December 11 with Bagherpara Police Station against unidentified individuals.
Police arrested four suspects on December 25 and later submitted the charge sheet on December 14, 2022. The investigation revealed that the three main convicts had killed Al Amin to hijack his vehicle, which was later sold to Russell Mollah.
