Three more products have been recognized as Geographical Indication (GI) of Bangladesh. The number of approved GI products in the country increased to 31.
Newly approved GI products are – date molasses of Jessore, sweet betel leaf of Rajshahi and nakshi kantha of Jamalpur.
The ministry of Industries on Thursday published a journal in this regard.
In 2016, Jamdani saree was recognized as the first GI product in Bangladesh and later 20 more products received GI recognition.
They are Bangladesh’s Hilsa, Chapainawabganj’s Khirsapat Mango, Bijaypur’s White Soil, Dinajpur’s Katari Bhog, Kalijira, Rangpur’s Satranji, Rajshahi Silk, Dhaka Muslin, Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj’s Fazli Mango, Bangladesh’s Bagda Prawn, Bangladesh’s Shital Pati, Bogura’s Doi, Sherpur’s Tulshimala Paddy, Chapainawabganj’s Langra Mango, Ashwina Mango of Chapainawabganj, Kacha Golla of Natore, Black Bengal Goat of Bangladesh, Tangail Porabari Chamcham, Rasmalai of Cumilla and Kushtia’s Tiler Khaja.
