UNB, Chittagong :
Three members of a family, including two siblings, suffered burn injuries in a fire following an explosion in a 2nd floor apartment in Paschim Bakalia Dewan Bazar area of the city early Friday.
The injured were identified as Samuda Khatun, 70, and her grandchildren Arif, 26, and Ifti, 17, children of Motaleb Hossain. Shah Md Abdur Rouf, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, said the fire broke out at the flat of six-storey Madrasah Arabia Khayeria Orphanage building in the early hours after something went off with a big bang,
leaving the trio critically injured.
The injured were taken to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, the reason behind the blast could not be known with police suspecting that it might have taken place from accumulated gas.
