3 more killed in gunfights

Two suspected drug peddlers and a robber were killed in separate “gunfights” with the law enforcers in Kushtia and Mymensingh districts early Wedneday.
In Kushtia Sadar, Mohammad Azam, 45, died in a gunfight with police, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.
Acting on secret information that two gangs of suspected drug peddlers were meeting at Kaburhat in Sadar upazila, a team of police raided the area around 2:30am, said Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire on the team, prompting them to fire back triggering a “gunfight”, the OC said.
Azam came in the line of fire and died on the spot, the police official said adding that police recovered 900 pieces of Yaba there.
In Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia, a team of police conducted a drive at Muslimnagar char after receiving information that “drug peddlers” were there, reports our correspondent quoting Shah Dara Khan, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur police station. When police asked the suspected drug peddlers to surrender, they fired targeting police officials, which
triggered a armed clash, said the official.
Later, police found Madon with bullet wounds and took him to Daulatpur Upaizla Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered 800 pieces of Yaba, one Light Gun and 30 bottles of Phensidyl from the spot.
Both Azam and Madon were listed drug traders and wanted by police.
Azam was accused in 13 drug cases while Madon in 18 cases, local police said.
In Mymensingh, an alleged robber was killed in what police claimed to be a gunfight in Bhaluka upazila.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 35, of Angargara village from Bhaluka, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting Md Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Bhaluka Model Police Station.
On information that a gang of robbers was planning to commit robbery at Kadigrah, a police team led by Md Firoz Talukder, OC of Bhaluka Model Police Station, moved in the area around 2:00am, Mazharul said.
Sensing police presence, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate, the police official also said.
Anwar received bullet wounds during the incident and was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors declared him dead.
The body of the deceased was sent to MMC morgue for autopsy, the OC (Investigation) added.
