3 JnU Chhatra Dal leaders suspended
City Desk :
Jagannath University (JnU) has suspended three Chhatra Dal leaders, Yasin Hossain Saif (Mass Communication, 2020-21), Abu Hena Mursalin (Social Work, 2018-19), and Imran Hasan Iman (Bangla, 2023-24) after they attacked two university teachers and three leaders of the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BDSC).
The university also banned two senior Chhatra Dal leaders, Md Mahmudul Hasan (Chemistry, 2012-13) and Md Zahidul Islam (Philosophy, 2012-13), from entering campus.
A formal warning was issued to Azizul Hakim (History, 2020-21), warning possible expulsion for future violations. The incident occurred near the Shaheed Sajid Academic Building on July 10, when Chhatra Dal activists allegedly assaulted management student Rafiq Bin Sadek Resad over suspected ties to the Chhatra League.
When intervening teachers, including Dr AKM Rifat Hasan and Assistant Proctor Shafiqul Islam, tried to stop the attack, they were also verbally and physically assaulted. Simultaneously, BDSC leaders Md Faisal Murad, Ferdous Hasan, and Faruk were assaulted accused of Chhatra League links. In response, students protested by locking the administrative building and demanding justice, claiming the investigation was biased.
The university has formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident under the convener Prof Dr Md Mosharraf Hossain. The attack and subsequent protests have raised serious concerns about campus violence and administrative transparency.
