In separate incidents, three people were sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday for murders in the district.
A court sentenced a woman along with her lover to the life imprisonment for killing her husband over extramarital affairs in Barhatta upazila in 2006.
The convicts are Khairunnahar alias Dulona alias Doli, 24, wife of deceased Jahangir Alam, and her Sohel Miah, 28, son of Abul Kalam.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer five years
more in rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Jahangir Alam was strangulated to death by the convicts on December 2, 2006.
Victim’s sister Shirin Akter filed a case on December 22, 2006 in this regard.
Police submitted charge-sheet against the duo on April 9, 2007.
After examining the records and six witnesses, Additional Session’s Judge Abdul Hamid handed down the verdict. In another order, a young man was sentenced to death for killing his mother in 2007.
