3 Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in IED blast in Central African Republic

Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed on Tuesday after their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) during an operation in the Central African Republic.

The deceased were identified as Sainik — Jashim Uddin, 31, Jahangir Alam 26 and Sharif Hossain 26, according to a press release of the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

They were among four Bangladeshi peacekeepers injured in the explosion in the early hours of Tuesday.

The vehicle of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers conducting an operation under the aegis of the United Nations peacekeeping mission came under the IED attack at 8.35pm local time on Monday (1.35am Bangladesh time Tuesday), said the ISPR release.

The injured peacekeepers including Major Ashraful Haque were transferred to a hospital in Bouar town of Central African Republic for better treatment.

Doctors at the hospital declared Jashim Uddin, Jahangir Alam, and Sharif Hossain dead around 6:30 am local time on Tuesday (11:30 am Bangladesh time), said the release.

Major Ashraful Haque is undergoing treatment for injuries at the hospital, it said.

 The other Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in the Central African Republic are safe, said the release.
