After a year’s break, the 24th edition of the Dhaka Film Festival will host the ‘West Meets East Screenplay Lab’ project for the fourth time.
The names of the 10 films selected for this project have been recently announced. Three Bangladeshi films have made it to the list.
The top 10 include Raka Nowshin Nowar’s ‘Mans Kom’, Ahsan Samran’s ‘Betar’ and Ashiq Ur Rahman’s ‘Jolchhobi’.
The film ‘Betar’ is written and directed by Ahsan Samran and produced by Emon Bin Anwar.
The film will tell the story of Bangladesh’s social and political realities through satire.
The other films are Iran’s ‘The Sweet Berries’, Nepal’s ‘Mountain of Spirit’, Kazakhstan’s ‘Pay the Bill’, Kyrgyzstan’s ‘The Husband’, China’s ‘Sea Stands Still’ in Drifting Water’, Japan’s ‘Family on Fire’, and the Philippines’ ‘Luzonensis and Floriciensis’.
The jury for the West Meets East Screenplay Lab was Ingrid Lill Hogtoon and Aji Hoffert (Norway), Yana Lekarska (Bulgaria), Adnan Al Rajib and Rashed Zaman (Bangladesh), Anna Shalashina (Russia), and George Ovashvili (Georgia).
The 24th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival, organised by Rainbow Film Society, will open on January 10, 2026.
The West Meets East Screenplay Lab Project will be held online from January 11 to 14 under the supervision of film critic and screenwriter Sadia Khalid Reeti.
The top three projects in this event will receive cash prizes of in cash of Tk 5 lakh, Tk 3 lakh and Tk 2 lakh.
The prize money will be given to the top three projects as a screenplay development fund.
