Bangladesh Railway launched ‘Agricultural Special Train’ to reduce the transport cost to bring the market price under control. However, the farmers, agricultural entrepreneurs and traders did not respond to the transportation of goods. The railway authorities are not interested in transporting agricultural products due to the cost of loading and unloading the goods in trains, the possibility of deterioration of the quality of raw vegetables and the absence of any system for the goods to reach the specified destination or market after release from the train.
From October 22 to 26, three agricultural products special trains were running in Dhaka from the north-south region of the country. 2 thousand 880 kg of goods have been transported in three trains. The revenue of the railway was only 4 thousand 98 taka. The railway authorities did not agree to give details about the cost of the railway. According to sources, about 9 lakh taka was spent on agricultural products special train from Rahanpur to Dhaka.
