District Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Elyach Chowdhury has instructed to prepare 290 medical teams in each union, upazila and Sadar Hospital for all types of medical and health care to deal with the disaster situation due to the risk of landslides, inundation and flood due to continuous heavy rains.
SujanBarua, District Health Supervisor of the Civil Surgeon’s office, confirmed the matter on Wednesday (21 August). Dr. Mohammad Elyach Chowdhury said that due to heavy rains, flooding has occurred in large areas of the upazilas including the metropolis, causing public suffering including traffic stoppage in some areas.
Therefore, 1 in each of the 200 Unions of Chattagram District, a total of 200, 5 in 15 Upazila Health Complex, 75 in 5, 1 in 9 Urban Dispensaries, 1 in School Health Clinic, 1 in District Sadar Hospital (Chattagram 250-bed General Hospital), 290 with 5 medical teams.
Medical team should be prepared. Buffer stocks (medicines, saline, food saline, water purification tablets, etc.) should be stocked for disaster response.
All officers and employees should be instructed to be prepared to deal with any possible disaster. Civil surgeon Dr. Mohammad Elyach Chowdhury ordered all doctors, officials and employees of UH&FPO to be present at the workplace. He said that the local authority should maintain constant communication with the administration. Antivenom should be stocked for snake bite patients.
Care should be taken to ensure that the medical services of the people are not disrupted due to heavy rains. Initiatives should be taken to strengthen post-disaster health education programs.
All preparations should be made to ensure that government resources are not destroyed by rainwater.
