As many as 255 foreign commercial ships arrived at Mongla, the 2nd biggest Sea Port of the country (in Bagerhat district) during the first 117 days of the new financial year (of 2025-26) alone.
As a result, revenue of the Port increased, it was disclosed by Mongla Port Authorities (MPA) on Monday.
According to the Port Authorities, out of the total arrived ships some 18 carried 10 thousand and 608 TEUs containers and 10 ships carried some 253 reconditioned cars of different brands.
Muhammad Makruzzaman, Deputy Director (mass communication) of Mongla Port Authorites told a total 47 lakh tons goods were handled at the Port during the period from July 01 to October 25.
In this connection the interim government also played an important role in the matter.
Makruzzaman (DD) added, some 227 foreign commercial ships carrying fertilizer, clinker, LPG, coal and stone anchored at the different places like jetties, harbor area, Base cricks, Sundari quota and mooring buoys.
The DD added, Mongla Sea Port has been playing an important role in developing the economic growth and creating employment facilities in the south-western zone of the country since its inception.
Among the goods imported through the Port contain food grains, raw materials for cement, fertilizer, automobiles, machinery goods, coals, oil, oil seeds, maze, LPG etc.
and on the other hand, exported goods contain fish, shrimps, silk, silk cloths, frozen food, crabs, clay tiles etc.
DD Makruzzaman also added, importing of reconditioned cars through the Port is increasing gradually as the BRVID (Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers’ Association) is interested to import the reconditioned cars through the Mongla Port as it is less costly than that through Chottogram Port.
The DD of Mongla Port also told, the 40 percent capacity of the Port is perceived.
On the other hand, the MPA (Mongla Port Authorities) did not enhance any tariff for the current financial year (2025-26). So, The export- importers are interested to use Mongla Sea Port.
