Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury clarified that the dismissal of 252 cadet sub-inspectors (SIs) from the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi, was due to indiscipline and not politically motivated.
Speaking to journalists after the third meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order Affairs at the Home Ministry in Dhaka on Tuesday (22 October), he explained that “discipline is a broad term” and did not specify the exact nature of the charges.
He added that the academy would be in the best position to explain the specific violations that led to the dismissals. “I am not fully aware of the internal process,” he said.
Jahangir also noted that the dismissal of these cadets would not significantly impact the law and order situation, and a new recruitment process is already underway to fill the vacancies.
When asked if the dismissals were related to the SIs’ political affiliations, he firmly denied it, stating that the action was based on academic misconduct. He further emphasized that maintaining discipline is non-negotiable, saying, “This happens more often than people think.
Sometimes entire batches are terminated for disciplinary reasons, and there’s no compromise in such matters.”
Earlier, official reports confirmed that 252 sub-inspectors undergoing training at the Bangladesh Police Academy were sent on leave on October 17 due to allegations of indiscipline.
